Safety is Our Priority
Arc never knowingly sells items that are dangerous or which have been recalled.  While we, in good faith, make every attempt to stay abreast of product recalls and stock only safe merchandise, we don’t have the capacity to test for lead, pthalates (a chemical used to soften plastic) and other toxins.
  • Donating:  For the safety of all involved, please do not donate recalled toys, crayons, or inexpensive children’s jewelry or trinkets, pool toys or vinyl window decals.  Rather than donating please return any recalled or suspect item to the place of purchase or the manufacturer. If neither option is available, remove any batteries from the toys (and recycle them), put the item in a plastic bag and place in the trash.

Mattress recycling for Hennepin County Residents: For $15 per mattress or boxspring, Hennepin County residents can bring their items to the Hennepin County Drop Off Facility in Brooklyn Park. About 80-90% by weight is broken down into individual components for recycling or recovery. Steel springs are compacted and baled, then used to make new steel products. Cotton is remade into oil filters for large construction equipment and foam padding is re-made into carpet pads. Wood is combusted for energy. The project, a partnership between Hennepin County and PPL Industries expects to expand to other parts of the metro in the near future. We’ll keep you posted.

The Digital Television transition is coming to a television near you. If you choose to purchase a new TV, be sure to recycle your old one! Most TVs and computers contain a cathode ray tube which contains 2-8 pounds of lead. This means it cannot be thrown away in the trash. Find Electronics Recycling Options

Arc Services

Governor Pawlenty's proposed budget could mean significant funding cuts for services for people with disabilities. Arc's public policy volunteers are working hard to educate policymakers about how cuts would affect our constituents. Sign up and receive Policy Preview e-mails bi-monthly to stay informed! And attend a Town Hall Meeting. They are scheduled across the metro area through the end of February. Your representatives want to hear from you! More information at www.arcgreatertwincities.org.
